Sarvarog Nivaran Mahabhishek Mahapuja

The Mahamrityunjay Mandir stands in the Daranagar lane of Varanasi, close to the Kaal Bhairav temple, and is regarded as the only temple in the country dedicated specifically to Mahamrityunjaya Mahadev. Its Shivling is considered swayambhu, or self-manifested, and the sanctum's inner shrines are said to be thousands of years old, though the present temple building dates to the 18th century. Within the complex stands the Kalodak Kup, an ancient well tradition holds was filled with medicinal herbs by Lord Dhanvantari, physician to the gods, and its water is regarded by devotees as having healing properties. Generations of pilgrims have come here to perform Mrityunjaya Paath, believing the temple shields them from disease and untimely death.
