🕌 About Temple
The Navgrah Shani Mandir stands roughly eight kilometres from central Ujjain at the confluence of the Shipra, Gandaki and Saraswati rivers, a spot known locally as Triveni Ghat. Tradition holds that the temple was established around two thousand years ago under King Vikramaditya, making it one of the earliest Navagraha temples in India. It is considered unique among Shani shrines for depicting Shani Dev in a form associated with Lord Shiva, and the complex houses individual sanctums for all nine planetary deities, with Shani at the centre. Offering sesame oil to Shani Dev here, particularly on Saturdays, is a long-observed practice among devotees seeking relief from Sade Sati and other Shani-related difficulties.
